CLINTON — If you visit the CH Moore Homestead in the near future, you won’t have to worry about them dusting while they renovate the flooring in the main room of the house.

But, in a way, the work adds to the historic interest of the house.

“In 1905, there was a girl named Kent at the school and she was given an assignment to write an essay about an old house in Clinton,” Joey Long, director of Homestead and the museum, told the Journal. “So the widow let her come in and write about this house.”

The girl described the main piece in her story, which included descriptions of decorations and artwork, and wrote about its popularity in the early 20th century of “Moroccan rooms”

Long said she thought that was why the room contained a large sort of North African-inspired painting.
