New Orleans Saints quarterback Derek Carr delivers message of hope: ‘God is always good’

Every person will, at some point, experience some sort of trial, but New Orleans Saints quarterback Derek Carr reminds us of the hope we have in God’s faithfulness, even in difficult times .

During a message he delivered, Carr spoke about what he and his wife, Heather, have been experiencing with their son Dallas’ health issues.

“When their oldest son, Dallas, was born in 2013, he had emergency surgery at Valley Children’s due to intestinal malrotation, a life-threatening condition that affected his blood supply and intestinal tract,” explained the Valley Children’s Hospital.

However, throughout this experience, Carr and his wife trusted God.

“My God, you are going to help my son. But even if you don’t. I’m still not going to give in. I will always fight. I’m going to pray again. I’ll always love it,” the quarterback recalled in prayer. “Even if you don’t help me through this, you’re still good and I’m not going to bow to the culture. Even if you don’t, you’re still good. You are always faithful. You are always merciful.

“My son, the enemy has been trying to take him since he was born because of something special in his life,” Carr said. “Show. When he’s older, you’ll see him. But he (the enemy) has been trying to get him since he was born. He’s had these surgeries and all these kinds of things.

“My wife…she looked at me and she said, ‘Is he going to make it?’ I said, “I don’t know. I believe he is. Yes, I think he will. Yeah, absolutely,” he added. “But even if he doesn’t make it, even if he doesn’t make it” – I looked at my wife and said this… Imagine how difficult it is first time dad.

“Even if he doesn’t, God is still good. Even if he doesn’t, we have to believe that God is still good,” he remembers saying. “I cannot base my theology…on my experience. My theology is based on Jesus and what the Bible says. I can’t justify it just because if something bad happens to me, God can’t do it again. I can’t be like that.

Carr’s faith and family are his first priority. He states on his website: “The three most important things in my life are faith, family and football. »

“I have a very strong faith in God. This is the reason why I play football. He gave me this special talent and I want to use it to glorify him. I am grateful for the opportunity to advance His kingdom by sharing my faith on and off the football field. At any time, at any moment, my football career could be taken away from me, but my faith and my relationship with God will never be taken away from me,” Carr said.

However, “Being a quarterback is what I do but it doesn’t define who I am. I am above all a disciple of Jesus Christ,” he adds.

Movieguide® previously reported on Carr’s faith:

Although he started with the team since 2014, Carr said he relied on his faith in God in the face of disappointment.

“I removed myself from a situation and found myself in the presence of God every day,” Carr told Christian Headlines. “I came into his presence and found peace. And I found joy. I found answers to my questions.

“Everyone asks me: ‘How are you?’ »…I’m doing great and I’ll tell you why. …I walk very well with Jesus. He spoke to me so loudly. That was so clear to me,” Carr continued. “That’s not to say it’s been easy. That’s not to say I didn’t wake up and feel angry at times. That’s not to say I didn’t wake up and feel a little upset at times, sad at times. Damn, I really wish I could have done more. I really wish I could have helped more or done better.

“…I didn’t accomplish the things I wanted to accomplish…with the Raiders. (But) I still have things to accomplish in Las Vegas.
