Inmate who escaped from metro Atlanta hospital arrested in North Carolina

An inmate who escaped from a hospital nearly a week ago has been arrested.

Police, deputies and Georgia State Patrol troopers were searching for Kendrick Hurst, 34, who escaped Sunday from Piedmont Newton Hospital in Covington.

He was found Friday in Wake County, North Carolina. He now faces additional escape charges on top of his original charges.

Hurst was arrested April 28 on charges of terroristic threats, fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer, obstruction and several traffic violations.

Officials with the Newton County Sheriff’s Office said they are investigating to determine who helped him escape and whether proper policies were followed when transporting him to the hospital.
