ALBUQUERQUE, New Mexico – New Mexico’s Reed Spenrath hit three home runs, including two grand slams, as the Lobos won the series opener Friday, 16-0, over the Wolf Pack.

Spenrath finished the day 3-for-5 with nine RBIs. His first grand slam opened the scoring in the bottom of the third, as New Mexico scored five times against the Nevada starter. Jason Doktorczyk. His second grand slam came in the Lobos’ eight-run sixth, which broke things open, and he added a solo shot in the eighth.

Doktorczyk fell to 5-4 with the loss, being charged with nine runs on 10 hits in 5.1 innings.

Dayne Pengelly struck out 12 and allowed just four hits in seven scoreless innings for the Lobos (26-21, 15-10 MW), tying his record at 4-4.

Nevada (21-24, 13-12 MW) put the runner in scoring position in each of the second and third innings, but came away empty-handed, missing a chance to take an early lead.

The teams return to action Saturday at 1 p.m. PT.
