Minot Meet highlights latest preparations for state |  News, Sports, Jobs


KARI GIBB/MDN Minot senior Logan Conklin clears 19 feet, 9 inches in the long jump preliminary flight at the Minot boys track and field meet. He would place fourth in the event while the team would finish third overall.

Minot North and Minot High had a comfortable environment for the Minot Meet boys track and field events, which took place at Duane Carlson Stadium with seven other teams in attendance. Bismarck Century would take home first place with 139 team points while Minot High was second with 129.5 and Bismarck High third with 110.5 points.

Minot North junior John Williams III had a season-high in the triple jump at the meet. His 46-02 was nearly three feet farther than any other jumper at the meet and three inches shy of the 46-5 mark he used to win the state title last spring. Junior Grayson Schaeffer hit 43-3.5 for second place while Sentinel Cameron Jesz also finished fifth for Minot North.

Schaeffer also cleared 6 feet for a tie for third place in the high jump while seniors Logan Conklin and Jacob Roth finished fourth in the long jump and fifth in the pole vault, respectively. Conklin also finished sixth in the high jump for the Magi.

Minot High junior Benjamin Harris ran a personal best time of 1:56.53 in the 800-meter run, which was good enough to win the event. Juniors Dylan Jackson, Jacob Jackson and Nathan Wistisen finished fifth, seventh and eighth, respectively. His compatriot Derek Oswalk won the 3200m with a time of 10:59.54 at the event.

Minot North junior Nolan Howey finished second in the 1,600 with a time of 4:39.18 while Minot High junior Dallin Chapman finished sixth.

100 St. Mary’s won with a score of 10.83 while Minot High senior Tyson Ruzicka was second with a season-best 10.99. Magi Aaron Prestwich finished sixth while Minot North junior Carter Coleman was ninth and Minot High freshman James Pallotta was 10th.

200 Junior Colby Fleck won the 100 and 200 with Bismarck High sophomore Deegan Staudinger second in the 200 and third in the 100 with Magi Prestwich third. Ruzicka placed sixth and Pallotta tied for eighth while Sentinel sophomore Aaron Garza finished 10th.

Minot High junior Kaden Kraft placed fourth in the 300 hurdles with a personal best of 42.22 at the meet. The first relay position for Minot High was in the 4×100 where junior Azen Lockhart teamed with Pallotta, Prestwich and Ruzicka for a second place finish with a time of 44.23 during the meet.

In the field events, senior Kobe Irmen hit 160-09 for first place in the debate and took third in the javelin with a 143-3 while fellow senior Junior Lincoln Brooks finished seventh and senior Heston Faul also finished eighth for the Magi.

Minot High senior Jobe Rystedt finished fourth in the shot put with a toss of 51-11, a personal best for the season. Irmen finished seventh in the shot put.
