Louisiana Lawmakers Consider Bill to Ban THC Products

Louisiana Lawmakers Consider Bill to Ban THC Products

SHREVEPORT, LA – A bill banning THC-containing products is moving forward in Louisiana. THC is the compound found in marijuana that produces a “high.” It is now sold in many products, including gummies, drinks and even hemp flour.
But Shreveport Sen. Thomas Pressly says current law makes it too easy for children to access these products, which could be dangerous and lead to more problems.

But critics of the bill say the measure would cost the state money and also result in job losses. The owner of a New Orleans hemp store is urging other business owners in the state to let lawmakers know this bill is not needed.

Pressly says he’s willing to work on a possible compromise, but he wants to make sure our children are protected.

What would change with this bill?

Current law (RS 3:1481) defines that an “adult-use consumable hemp product” is any consumable hemp product that contains more than 0.5 milligrams of total THC per package.

Proposed law defines that an “adult-use consumable hemp product” is any consumable hemp product that does not contain THC per serving or per package.
