Meet some of the wild vehicles from ‘Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga’

Prepare to return to Fury Road.

A new “Mad Max” movie hits theaters this month, the fifth in the franchise, and a video released this weekend by producer Warner Bros. gives a taste of the vehicles that will appear on screen, which, in the case of a Mad Max film, usually turn out to be as notable as the human characters.

Titled “Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga” and directed by franchise creator George Miller, the film is a prequel to the 2015 hit “Mad Max: Fury Road” and tells the story of Imperator Furiosa, previously played by Charlize Theron. The new story covers approximately 15 years of Furiosa’s debut, with most of the footage featuring Anya Taylor-Joy in the role. His enemy this time is the new character Dementus, played by Chris Hemsworth.

In some scenes, Furiosa can be seen piloting the famous War Rig, albeit what appears to be a newer version of it. The semi truck from hell is based on a Kenworth W900 truck and produces 617 hp. That doesn’t sound like much, but its torque rating, more important for trucks hauling heavy loads, is 2,050 lb-ft.

Dementus takes on the War Rig with an assortment of vehicles. There is a chariot similar to one you might find in ancient Athens or Rome, except instead of horses it is pulled by a trio of motorcycles, with the lead bike equipped with a huge radial cycle engine which, in the film, was probably taken from the wreckage of an old light aircraft.

The video also shows a Plymouth Valiant, a Volkswagen Beetle fused with a motorcycle, and a motorcycle whose rear wheel has been replaced with a snowmobile track. While all the vehicles are cool, the star is definitely the Six Foot. It’s a Mack DM-800 transformed into a monster truck, and it’s probably the flagship vehicle in Dementus’ collection.

For Max fans, it doesn’t look like main character Max Rockatansky will make an appearance, and that means his Pursuit Special, a 1973 Ford Falcon GT coupe from the XB series, probably won’t appear either.

Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga hits theaters on May 24.
