Very red portrait of King Charles inspired bloody and funny jokes

Call it a period piece.

Tuesday, King Charles III unveiled the first portrait of the monarch taken since he took the throneand it’s very, very red – and damn hilarious.

The vast oil on canvas was painted by artist Jonathan Yeo and depicts the king in the bright red uniform of the Welsh Guards which bleeds a similar shade in the background. Charles got his first glimpse of the portrait on Tuesday at Buckingham Palace and seemed a little scared when he first saw it.

But can we blame him? The painting seems demonic enough that if you look at it and chant “sausage fingers”» Three times, the portrait will throw seven boiled eggs at you.

Funny enough, Charles’ wife, Queen Camilla, reportedly looked at the painting and told Yeo, “Yes, you have it,” the BBC reports.

Social media users on X, formerly Twitter, believed the painting also captured the essence of Charles – in a variety of ways. But some thought the painting looked like something else, from food to fictional villains. And a few people couldn’t help but make reference to Tampongate.
