Tom Clancy’s The Division Heartland canceled by Ubisoft

Tom Clancy’s The Division Heartland canceled by Ubisoft

It seems like we can’t go long without news of an upcoming title being canceled and today is no different. During an earnings conference call, Ubisoft announced that Tom Clancy’s The Division Heartland was canceled as the company decided to focus on other games. If you needed further proof that the video game industry is in a tumultuous state, there you have it.

This spin-off of The Division series seems to have been quite advanced in its development. Announced in 2021, Tom Clancy’s The Division Heartland has gone through several beta periods, giving players plenty of time to experience the multiplayer game. However, since those betas ended, things have gone dark, with some in the gaming community wondering where The Division Heartland has gone.

Today we got our answer. Following Ubisoft’s restructuring and process streamlining efforts, one of the casualties was The Division Heartland. The call for results explains this by the fact that Ubisoft has “increased the selectivity of its investments” with resources deployed elsewhere. The two properties listed as beneficiaries of assets from the canceled game are Rainbow Six and XDefiant. These resources appear to refer in part to Red Storm Entertainment, developer of the title, which is also the studio behind the original Rainbow Six games in 1998.

Following hiring freezes, restructurings and other organizational changes, Ubisoft says it has reduced its outbound costs by 150 million euros ($163 million) in the 2023-2024 fiscal year, with a cost of operating cost of 1.6 billion euros ($1.74 billion). The company’s workforce now stands at 19,011 people, with 1,700 departures in the previous 18 months.

On the other hand, the announcement of the results confirms Ubisoft’s commitment to three upcoming titles. Star Wars Outlaws, Assassin’s Creed Shadows, and the year to come.
