Wright State to offer seven new undergraduate degrees

The new undergraduate degrees are programs in engineering technology and environmental science.

The restructured programs include degrees in exercise science and health sciences to replace the old sports science education program; interdisciplinary studies, offered as a Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science degree; and an associate degree in agricultural studies, offered at the Lake Campus.

Several micro-certificates will be offered, including medical French and Spanish for healthcare professionals; “unconventional warfare”, on cybersecurity and weapons of mass destruction; and introduction to user experience and design.

The university announced in February that it would “deactivate” 34 degree programs. Some of these 34 degree programs are similar to the seven that were announced this week, but university officials said the seven announced do not exactly correlate to the 34 degree programs that were eliminated .

“This is what the university does regularly,” said Seth Bauguess, a university spokesman.

In February, university officials said it was common to carry out restructurings and deactivate programs with low enrollment. The University of Toledo and the University of Miami were under similar scrutiny at the time.
