The Lake Norman singer’s living room, a “break place”

LAKE NORMAN, NC (QUEEN CITY NEWS) – “I need tennis shoes so I can run!” »

Although there are always more tasks to do and tasks to complete, about once a week, Zhengzheng Wiley’s living room becomes a place where she can take a break.

“I have to say that for almost 20 years I forgot about it,” Zhengzheng said. “I was successful, I enjoyed my professional life, but I felt like it wasn’t me.”

They usually start with a vocal warm-up. Then they turn to what she’s been avoiding all those years she’s spent hustling.

“I was sitting there thinking who I am, where I came from, what am I doing now and where am I going?” remembers Zheng Zheng.

Far from his native China, the sounds of his childhood and history fill his home. The women she meets are part of the “Chinese Mandarin Variety Club”. They sing all over the Carolinas.

“It makes me feel like myself. I’m feeling good. It feels like home,” said Zhengzheng.

Through music, she rediscovered joy and then made time for it.

“There are no boundaries in music,” Zhengzheng said.

Even though most don’t know the words to their songs, the feeling of joy is there and universal.

Zhengzheng and his band will perform at the Dragon Boat Race and Asian Festival on Lake Norman on May 11.
