Campaign website: Facebook

MONICA- Good afternoon. Today we have one Leland Jake Olinger, running for Georgia Senate District 25. Thanks to be here.

LELAND- Thank you for. It’s a great experience.

MONICA- Of course. Now I have a few questions. First of all, what do you think is the biggest problem or challenge to solve? And how do you plan to solve this problem if you are elected?

LELAND- There is not just one problem to solve. There are a lot of problems, a lot of old and outdated laws that need to be changed. We are in a different time than when these laws were passed. So we need to update the policies’ laws, making them fairer for everyone, you know, with every law that needs to be changed. You know, for example, I feel very strongly about the personal aspect of parental alienation and stuff like that. So there were a lot of child custody laws, children’s laws and family laws that needed to be changed. And then, you know, people talk about a lot of other things about the economy. There are things we as a state can do to help the economy by saying to the federal government, “We can’t do this.” It costs our people dearly, you know, and it challenges the federal government on this level. And then you move on.

There are so many laws that need to be changed. And then, you know, once you change things, you can look at social issues and that will change the incarceration rate. People always talk about it. Well, the mental health suicide rate, you’re going to change that. You know, the suicide rate is highest among men. Change some of these laws. Because when you look at it, it boils down to, you know, financial ruin, loss of family. What are they doing. Yeah. Or they end up in jail, you know, because it was weaponized. And I’m going to say, you know, so you need to change these laws. I want to change the dynamics of social change laws.

MONICA- GOOD. Now, how has your background and experience prepared you for this role?

LELAND- I am an ordinary person. I was the one who experienced things in terms of alienation with the parents, with the other parent, you know, and it might have been different now than what they were doing. That could have changed it, you know, because things never change for your children. They will be 18 years old. When they turn 18, they will change. No, they don’t. And that’s the sad truth. So, you know, I always told my kids that I would fight for them, but they didn’t let them. This is how. Because I don’t want anyone else to go through what I went through.

MONICA- All right. And finally, what would progress look like for you if you were elected?

LELAND- Progress would be changing the laws, you know, updating them. You know, like I said, we’ve always had to change laws in the past. This is how we became the United States. It’s the world. So we had civil rights and we always had to change the laws and society changed. So this is what we have to do now.

MONICA- GOOD. And what differentiates you from your opponent? Why should voters vote for you?

LELAND- I can’t say why vote for me. I mean, he’s like a politician. He is the reason we are where we are today in society. So you know, it’s time for a change. The laws you helped create have affected me. I want these laws like you to help me, don’t you? It affected me. I want to change them so that they don’t affect the next generation in the same way.

MONICA- GOOD. Well, thank you for joining us today.

LELAND- THANKS.
