Sexual assault at Wyandotte High School filmed and investigated

KANSAS CITY, Kan. — A Kansas City, Kansas, public schools student is in custody after an alleged sexual assault on the Wyandotte High School campus.

FOX4 began asking questions about it Wednesday after school leaders didn’t release any information, and parents and students we spoke with said they knew nothing about it.

“No, I didn’t hear about it – something like that should have been reported throughout the school,” said Vernon Johnson, a senior at Wyandotte High.

“This is something parents should know – just to protect their own child,” said the parent of a first-year student at the school.

Working For You, FOX4 learned on May 3 that a student allegedly sexually assaulted a female student.

The incident was captured on school security cameras. KCKPS told FOX4 that’s how campus police knew what was happening and intervened.

The nature of the alleged attack is unknown at this stage.

This student was arrested and, following an investigation, was charged by the Wyandotte County Prosecutor’s Office.

“It’s crazy stuff, if that makes sense — it’s crazy stuff,” Johnson said.

“It’s very worrying. It’s really sad – even if it happens, it’s terrible,” one parent said.

The charge(s) against the teenage suspect at this point are unclear. FOX4 asked the Wyandotte County Prosecutor’s Office a series of questions, but they have yet to answer any of them.

We understand the court administrator is working to get FOX4 a copy of the complaint, and once we know more, we will update this story.
