‘I didn’t know Bettina was the killer’: Kaila Estrada shocked by ‘Can’t Buy Me Love’ finale

MANILA, Philippines — Even Kaila Estrada didn’t know that Bettina, her character from “Can’t Buy Me Love,” was a central figure in the show’s final episodes.

The series starring Donny Pangilinan and Belle Mariano ended with the revelation that Bettina was the unexpected killer in the story, something Kaila was unaware of going into the final days of filming.

“Nagulat din ako,” Kaila admitted. “It was quite an interesting experience since we didn’t know what was going to happen until a few days before we shot the ending. I didn’t know Bettina was the killer.”

Kaila even shared that the reveal was so secret that the cast didn’t even have a copy of the final script during finale week.

“We were showing footage of recording and ibibigay ‘yung that day at doon na rin namin babasahin. It was a completely different way of working, and I felt it added to the suspense,” she said for follow-up. “Dealing with raw emotions under high stress conditions. I think it worked well.”

The actress said portraying Bettina, a middle child, struck a chord and she believes such a connection resonated and comforted some viewers.

“I guess with her last monologue, I can relate to some of her lines, being a middle child myself,” Kaila said, noting that she has older and younger siblings thanks to his parents John Estrada and Janice de Belen.

Kaila also shared that she was amused to see the audience’s tweets relating to Bettina and that her final monologue “healed their inner child.”

“It feels good, and it’s something that I’m proud of, and I’m so happy to have this opportunity to do it,” Kaila concluded.
