Leadership Northeast offers sensory room for children

Luzerne County Head Start opened a sensory room at its Beekman Street center today.

The room was created by a team from Headstart Heroes Leadership Northeast’s Class of 2024 for their project.

The sensory rooms are primarily used for children on the autism spectrum, but they plan to allow all children access to the space.

The children were able to enter the room for the first time today.

“It was comforting. It was the most incredible experience, I cried,” said Headstart Heroes member Jaclyn Reisser. “Seeing the kids in there and enjoying this project that we had in mind and seeing it come to life now and seeing the children benefit from it and how it will help them throughout their everyday lives was just heartwarming.

Head Start is considering placing similar sensory areas in other locations.
