Departing Klopp hits Instagram with message for Liverpool fans

Outgoing Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has never been a fan of social media, but he took the plunge on Saturday ahead of his final match in charge of the team, becoming an instant hit on Instagram when he accumulated a million followers.

Klopp announced in January that he would leave Liverpool at the end of the season, and the last few months have been building up to his farewell match at Anfield against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Sunday.

In 2020, Klopp said he never understood social media, saying he was too old for it, but the 56-year-old now has a verified account on Instagram – ‘Kloppo’.

His profile description features the words “The Normal One”, a nickname he gave himself when asked in 2015 if he could become “Special One” at Liverpool.

“Leaving this incredible place is difficult, but I want to stay in touch with you,” Klopp said in his first message, reflecting on his legacy at Liverpool.

“And even though I’m not a social media person, people tell me that social media helps with that. So here we go. See you soon!”

Klopp leaves Liverpool after almost 500 games in charge and leading them to trophies including their first Premier League title, the Champions League and the FA Cup.
