Caught By the Tides by Jia Zhangke – Cannes 2024 Critics Panel: Day 5

Both a Venice Film Festival and Cannes Film Festival veteran, Jia Zhangke arrives in Cannes with not one but two projects – one being a small acting role in Black Dog, and of course, we’re more interested in the competitive title Caught By The Tides. – two decades of making a type film. After being in competition five times, Jia Zhangke made her debut at Cannes in 2002 with Unknown Pleasures, followed by 24 City in 2008. In 2010, her documentary I Wish I Knew was selected for Un Certain Regard. He captivated the festival in 2013 with A Touch of Sin, which won Best Screenplay. His latest films are Mountains May Depart (2015) and Ash Is Purest White (2018). Zhao Tao also headlines Caught By the Tides.

Summary: A lasting but fragile love story shared by Qiaoqiao and Bin, which takes place in China, from the early 2000s to the present. Caught up with each other, Qiaoqiao and Bin took in all that the city had to offer, singing and dancing. Until the day Bin wants to try his luck in a place bigger than Datong. He left without notice. Some time later, Qiaoqiao decides to go on a trip in search of him.
