NORWELL – The MSTCA South Shore Twilight Meet has quickly grown into one of the region’s largest showcases of outdoor athletics.

On Saturday, 74 schools and hundreds of athletes trudged a rain-soaked path to the field at Norwell High School, each looking to build a legacy.

A storm ravaged the terrain and conditions were difficult. However, they did not deter competitors. After making waves by winning the same event at the MSTCA Coaches Track Meet last week, Brockton sophomore Jarred Mighty stepped up for the men’s 400-meter hurdles and made history by setting a record of the competition with a breathtaking time of 55.78 seconds.

“I really worked in practice and cleared the first hurdle,” Mighty said. “Coach (Troy) Semper is really bringing us together on the hurdles team, and we are all doing really well this season.”

Mighty’s mark broke the record set last spring by Bridgewater-Raynham’s Connor Johnson by 0.10 seconds. He also competed in the 110 meter hurdles, finishing third (15.16).

Shortly after, Dennis-Yarmouth standout Breanna Braham set her own meet record in the women’s 200 meters, clocking 26.05 seconds. The junior also won the varsity 400-meter race in 59.85 seconds with a last-ditch rally down the stretch. It was a great way to return to the stage for the athlete, after battling injuries for weeks.

“The key in the (200), I kind of went out there, gave it my all,” Braham said. “Just do my thing.” For the (400), it started to drop a little. My thing was just to try to keep up with the other girls, to keep up. Then I give it all away at the end.

Bridgewater-Raynham saw some of its athletes shine, led by Marqui Galvin. The juniors finished with a double victory, emerging victorious in the men’s 100 meters (11.21 seconds) and long jump (21-05 feet).

Boston Latin star Brendan Nolan broke a meet record in the boys’ two-mile race in 9:50.03. Dedham’s Jayden Brown recorded a meet record in the boys’ javelin throw (154-05 feet). Meanwhile, Wellesley sophomore Emma Tuxbury recorded one in the women’s varsity 800-meter run (2:21.03).

Both Norwell teams defended their territory with an impressive performance. Liliana MacDonald set a meet record with a distance of 38 feet, 10 inches in the women’s triple jump.

MacDonald’s evening was just beginning. The URI commit also had an outstanding effort in the long jump, eclipsing a meet record (17-10 feet), and then became a three-time winner with a victory in the 100-meter hurdles (16.05 seconds) . An impressive feat, considering the number of athletes present at today’s invitational.

“It was great,” MacDonald. “I had a big PR in the triple jump, so that was really exciting. I think I was really heated. And we had a prom last night, so we went to bed pretty late, but it was great.

Diana Won finished with a meet record for Norwell in the girls javelin throw (111-02 feet).

The Clippers trailed on the boys side with Noah Mulligan’s wins in the 200 (22.57 seconds) and 400 meters (a meet record 49.72 ticks). Thomas Corbett won the mile (4:28.35).

Corbett was relieved and elated to win one last race at the track he called home in recent years.

“I mean, it’s nice to have home-field advantage,” Corbett said. “It feels like our last race. As a senior, it was kind of a good thing, where I was like, “Oh, it would be really cool to win my last race here.” There were a few scratches, so I had a chance to get out. It was time for me to do our best, hope for the best and perform.
