200 Michiganders come together for a common goal

LANSING, Mich. (WILX) – 200 people from across the state came together to achieve a common goal: treating and preventing childhood trauma.

It was all part of the Michigan Ace Initiative’s annual conference, where the group examines measurable ways to help children.

Members of this group collect data and meet with groups after the conference to focus on children who have gone through or are going through difficult times.

“It’s about adverse living situations, unsafe neighborhoods, violence and abuse, neglect, parents who have mental health issues, anxiety, depression, unemployment, homelessness, “Incarceration. These are experiences that cause really extreme stress to children and they have long-lasting impacts on children or can have a long-term, lifelong impact,” said Matt Edick of the Michigan Public Health Institute.
