Center launches action: Joshi on Siddaramaiah’s calls for cancellation of fugitive MP Prajwal’s diplomatic passport

Kalaburagi (Karnataka), May 23 (IANS) Objecting to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah repeatedly writing to Prime Minister Narendra Modi demanding cancellation of diplomatic passport of prime accused in sex videos case and absconding JD(S) MP Prajwal Revanna , Union Minister Pralhad Joshi said that there are established procedures for cancellation of passports.

Speaking to reporters in Kalaburagi, Joshi said, “A petition has already been submitted to the court for cancellation of the diplomatic passport. The central government takes the initiative. There is a procedure to bring back those who have fled abroad. The central government is ready to extend cooperation to the state government. If they expect their passport to be canceled immediately after writing a letter, how is that possible?

Joshi asked, “Let CM Siddaramaiah, Dy CM DK Shivakumar and Home Minister Dr G Parameshwara answer my question. The USB drive related to the Prajwal Revanna case was released on April 21. However, he traveled to a foreign country on April 27. What was the state government doing until then?

“No action was taken until the elections were over, fearing that it would affect Vokkaliga’s vote bank,” Joshi claimed.

“The sex video scandal is a serious matter. Prajwal Revanna is expected to face the investigation. If he has committed any offences, severe action must be taken. There is no question of sympathy for Prajwal Revanna at all,” clarified Joshi.

Joshi further accused the state government of focusing more on politics than conducting an investigation.

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah had again written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday, seeking cancellation of the diplomatic passport of accused JD(S) MP from Hassan, Prajwal Revanna, and prompt and concerted action to ensure his return to India.

“The FIR against Prajwal Revanna contains charges of rape, sexual assault, undressing of women and forced videography of sexual acts to threaten victims,” CM Siddaramaiah pointed out.
