Bobby Henry Sr.

“I had a dream that scared me. As I lay in bed, the fantasies and visions in my head alarmed me. Daniel 4:5 (ESV) | By Bobby R. Henry, Sr.

I felt like I was trapped in a nightmarish dream when I woke up to the shocking reality: a former president was indicted for secretly paying money to a professional prostitute. Meanwhile, governors in states like Florida, Texas, and Arizona are actively trying to erase black history from our school curriculums. To add to this surreal scenario, Supreme Court justices are being swayed by millionaires blessed with luxurious gifts, including houses and Winnebagos. In the House of Representatives, a bleached, blond, poorly built representative with a poorly composed body had the audacity to insult another’s appearance during an official session.

How could we, in our wildest imaginations, ever wish to support the personality, likeness, and extreme behaviors of the very individuals and systems that have historically repressed and oppressed us? How could we align ourselves with those who put us through such hardship and who are doing their best to bring us back to this extreme?

And then I woke up.

But it’s not a dream. This is our reality. It is a call to action for us to remain vigilant, informed and united. We must remember our history, honor our struggles, and continue to fight for justice and equality. Our families have endured and continue to suffer too much for us to forget the principles they fought for and the image of those they fought against.

Let’s stay true to our roots and defend the values that have sustained us in the most difficult times and not be fooled by entertainment or artists.
