Marcus Morris says Cleveland Cavaliers locker room needed ‘a new voice’

Cleveland Cavaliers forward Marcus Morris appeared on FanDual’s “Run it Back” show and spoke about the firing of head coach JB Bickerstaff. Morris, who joined the team in March and scored 25 points in Game 5 of the Eastern Conference semifinals, said Cavs players were turning away from Bickerstaff and a change was needed.

When asked if there was a disconnect in the locker room, Morris responded candidly.

“Honestly, yeah, I kind of saw it (Bickerstaff being fired), sorry to say,” he said. “I think he had the locker room, I think his time is up.”

When asked if the Cavs were moving on from Bickerstaff because he had lost influence in the locker room or if the players needed a new overall voice, Morris confirmed the latter response. “I think it’s more about bringing a new voice.”

Morris also discussed how Cavs players reacted in the locker room and took the comments. “I’ve been there a long time and I’ve seen the responses and the way the players have reacted and accepted the comments, the criticism, I haven’t seen it.

Morris’ responses more or less lay out what had already been reported by The Atheltic. Bickerstaff was becoming increasingly vocal in the locker room, leading to unhappy players and poor body language. A new voice is precisely what the Cavs are and should be aiming for.
