Shock as ‘legendary’ Huddersfield pub ‘set to close and become flats’

A popular Huddersfield pub is set to close later this year.

Gill and Alan Waling, who run The Bridge in Longroyd Bridge, said they will draw their last pints on Sunday July 21.

The couple have run The Bridge, known for their live music, for four years. Gill made the announcement on social media “with the greatest sadness” and said the pub had been sold and was intended to become apartments.

The statement added: “We have had a great four years here and have met some lovely people who have said they are sad to see us go. Alan and I would like to thank each of our loyal customers for your patronage and support. It has been a great time difficult because of this covid situation which has affected many pubs.”

She thanked the “loyal and trustworthy” staff and thanked the bands and singers who had played in the venue, as well as the pool, poker and dominoes players.

“But a special thank you to everyone who will really miss us and support us.

“Alan and I will be closing the doors to The Bridge on Sunday July 21 at 11 p.m. So this weekend Saturday we will have a few drinks on the way out.”
