BBC viewers have been left shocked after a beloved presenter announced her departure.

Fr Dewhurst announced she had handed in her notice after almost a decade working for the broadcaster.

The BBC Yorkshire weather presenter announced the news in an emotional message on social media.

“The only thing crazier than landing your dream job is handing in your notice,” she wrote on Instagram.

She continued: “A long, moving caption, so buckle up.

“8 years ago today I first joined BBC Yorkshire as a weather presenter and, despite the early 2.30am alarms, I have been living my true dream in this incredible company ever since.

“But as they say, all good things must come to an end and the end is in sight (still a few weeks off, so still plenty of evocative spam to come).”

Abbie then thanked those who had listened to her over the years and said she had made friends for life.

Commenting on its plans for the future, the channel added: “

She ended her statement by writing: “Thank you for welcoming me on your screens, on your radios and on your phones. It was a privilege that did not escape me.

“The future looks bright.”

Viewers were shocked by the sudden news, and many took to social media to wish him well.

One person wrote: “Sorry to see you go. I’ve watched you for many years and you will be greatly missed. Good luck in whatever you do next!!”
