“We have spent the last 24 hours trying to come to terms with the fact that our son is gone. It’s surreal that we not only have to admit this to ourselves, but also acknowledge it to the world. It’s a nightmare,” the two men said in a statement.

“Was Grayson loved?” The answer is yes. By us, his brother Cameron, his sister Erica, his entire extended family, by his friends, by his fellow players and – it seems – by many of you reading this. He was loved and will be missed. »

Since then, fans have viewed old footage of Grayson and many have begun to reflect on a time when he opened up about his mental health issues and his attitude towards those issues.

Last year, after his victory at the AdventHealth Championship on May 21, 2023, he said: “My parents have been through hell and back basically for the last six years with me battling mental issues.

“And it’s not easy for me and for the people around me who love me. They don’t like to see me depressed and they have been my number one supporter.

“Everyone has their struggles. And sometimes people are able to hide them and function, and sometimes you can’t. I think our society is starting to become more accepting that, you know, it’s okay to not be okay.

Murray continued: “I am not ashamed that I suffer from depression and anxiety.

“I know I’ve helped people in the past just through my direct messages on social media – people messaging me – and I can use my platform to continue to help with things like that.”

Many X users have called for people to be more supportive of each other following his death and are trying to live up to the final comment of his parents’ statement.

“Please honor Grayson by being kind to each other. If this becomes his legacy, we cannot ask for anything else,” the statement concluded.
