Silent protest in Dharwad condemning crime against women

A silent protest march was taken out in Dharwad on Tuesday by women activists and members of various organizations, condemning increasing attacks and crimes against women, including the brutal murders of Neha Hiremath and Anjali Ambiger in Hubballi-Dharwad , and demanding the immediate arrest of the member. of Parliament of Hassan Prajwal Revanna in the sex scandal.

Many students from various universities in Dharwad accompanied the activists by holding placards condemning such attacks and demanding justice for the victims and their families.

The silent protest march, which started from Kalabhavan, covered Subhas Road, Vivekanand Circle and ended at the originating point. At Vivekanand roundabout, protesters blocked the road for some time.

The silent protest march, coordinated by Shankar Halagatti, Prabhavati Desai, Mahesh Pattar, Madhulata Goudar and others, turned into a meeting on reaching the Kalabhavan premises where Mahadev Hadapad, Gangadhar Badiger, Mushtaq Haveripet, Shankar Ambali , Sanjeev Kulkarni, Hemakshi Kiresur and others spoke.

Many eminent personalities from different walks of life took part in the protest.

Speaking at the protest meeting, BL Patil of Vimochana Samsthe said that society and the government behave as if women’s lives and honor have no value.

“According to government data, every hour there is one rape of three children and one sexual assault against five children. During the COVID-19 pandemic, there have been 13,244 cases of child rape. Crimes against women are increasing year by year and there are undue delays in the administration of justice,” he said.

Some other speakers condemned in strong terms the sex scandal involving Prajwal Revanna and said that because of a sexual pervert, the state should bow its head in shame before the country. They demanded his immediate arrest and protection of the victims.

Addressing the protesters, writer Malati Pattanashetti said if young people practiced mind control and considered love as a sacred bond, then girls like Neha and Anjali would not have lost their lives.

Activist Shankar Halagatti said around 100 people from Hubballi-Dharwad would travel to Hassan by train and bus to participate in the Hassan Chalo protest.
