Reward offered after discovery of dead pet rabbit in Danville

The Danville Area Humane Society is offering a reward of up to $1,000 for information about the death of a pet rabbit.

Danville police investigated a reported theft of the animal — along with other items — from a home on Paxton Street on May 10, a news release reported.

The rabbit’s body was found in a white cage that had been dumped in an open field near the house.

“Any act of cruelty to an animal resulting in its death is taken very seriously in this area,” Paulette Dean, executive director of the Danville Area Humane Society, said in a statement.

“We are grateful for the Danville Police Department’s commitment to this matter,” Dean continued. “The rabbit was powerless to escape the cage.”

A reward of up to $1,000 is being offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person(s) responsible. Rewards are paid through the Earl Merricks Stop the Cruelty Fund, according to the release.
