Anger boils over as Stratford city council meeting canceled prematurely

Tuesday night’s Stratford City Council meeting ended before it even started.

Before the meeting began, Stratford resident Mike Sullivan arrived at city hall.

Sullivan is one of two people banned from attending council meetings for three months.

After a 20-minute delay, Mayor Martin Ritsma spoke privately with Sullivan, then moments later addressed the large crowd saying the meeting should be adjourned to a later date.

The crowd expressed frustration with the decision, yelling at the mayor and city councilors as they left the meeting.

Many people in the crowd were there to support Sullivan.

But others were present to give their opinion on a development project on the site of the former Krug factory.

Mayor Martin Ritsma and Mike Sullivan agreed to speak with CTV News about what happened Wednesday.
