The woman stopped in the center of the crosswalk, taking a step back. A black Toyota Rav4 then hit the Jeep, but the woman was unable to get to safety on the sidewalk.

Hitting the Jeep’s rear bumper, the Rav4 sent the vehicle into a spin. The Jeep drove directly toward the pedestrian.

Jeep driver flees

The woman was thrown into a parked car after being violently struck by the Jeep. The NYPD said the driver of the Jeep then got out of the car and ran away.

Three people were seen getting out of the Jeep, which was damaged. The driver pointed in the direction where the woman was struck, then grabbed several items from the vehicle and calmly drove away. The driver of the Rav4, however, remained on site.

The woman was transported to Lincoln Hospital, but was pronounced dead there, according to police. His identity has not been revealed.

It is unclear whether any of the vehicles drove through a red light. Which of the cars had priority is also unclear.

An investigation into the incident is underway. No one has yet been charged.

This month, a Bronx motorist was arrested a year after leaving e-bicyclist Hua Pan, 64, to die in the street in another hit-and-run case. Emilio Berrios, 32, was handcuffed on charges of criminally negligent homicide, inadvertent endangerment and fleeing the scene of an incident for the fatal hit-and-run that killed Pan on April 5 of last year.
