Sault Area Schools announce first Alumni Hall of Fame inductees

SAULT-STE. MARIE — Sault Area Schools recently announced the first class of inductees into its new Alumni Hall of Fame.

The idea for the Hall of Fame came about when the school district was informed that many of its alumni had notable accomplishments that the community wanted to recognize. The hall will recognize athletic achievements as well as distinguished alumni.

“This prestigious recognition celebrates the outstanding achievements and contributions of our graduates who have excelled in various fields and sports. Their successes are an inspiration to current and future students, embodying the spirit of excellence that Sault Area Public Schools strives to instill in every student,” said Superintendent Amy Kronemeyer.

The district announced the Hall of Fame around the same time it celebrated the district’s 150th anniversary.

“We thought it would be a great way to transition into the next 150 years,” Kronemeyer said.

The Sault Area Public Schools Alumni Hall of Fame Committee is comprised entirely of alumni who choose inductees based on public submissions and individual alumni accomplishments over the years. The names of the board members and the exact qualifications they used to choose the inductees are not public.

This year’s class will be officially inducted during a recognition ceremony on September 28. At that time, the district will honor former students and their or their surviving family members’ accomplishments.

Inductees for the Distinguished Alumni Hall include: Glen Bailey, Class of 1933; Thomas Robinson, class of 1958; Tom Farnquist, class of 1962; and Kathy Forest, class of 1974.

Former athletes included are: Archie Weston, Class of 1914; Kris Dunbar, class of 1988; Todd Menard, class of 1989; Andy Stabile, class of 1989; Lisa Moran, Class of 1991; Scott Weaver, class of 1992; Alice Nightingale, class of 1999; Whitney Bell, Class of 2000; William Anderson, Class of 2005; and Colin MacQuarrie, class of 2012.
