Suspected drunk driving accident caught on camera

EGELSTON TOWNSHIP, Mich — A Henderson Nevada woman is recovering from serious injuries after being struck by a suspected drunk driver. This is the suspect’s fifth alcohol-related arrest, according to court records.

The accident happened at the corner of Apple Avenue and Maple Island Road shortly after 7 p.m. last Sunday.

In business surveillance video, you can see a black truck heading south on Maple Island when a dark gray truck heading east on Apple runs the red light and hits the first truck, trapping the female passenger at the interior. Coincidentally, a Muskegon County sheriff’s deputy was also heading south on Maple Island and witnessed the crash. The woman was taken to hospital for emergency surgery, her husband who was driving was not seriously injured.

The driver of the second truck was Jason Hall. According to police documents, the deputy said he could smell intoxicants in the hallway and found and opened a beer can next to the front seat. Documents also show Hall’s driver’s license was revoked.

Muskegon attorney David Shafer, who represents the victims, said in a statement

“This accident was a preventable tragedy… My unfortunate and unsuspecting customers never stood a chance. We intend to use all of our resources to pursue the defendant for damages and strongly support vigorous prosecution of this drunk and reckless driver.

This is not Hall’s first arrest for drunk driving. Court records show Hall has been arrested four other times for alcohol over the past 14 years. DJ Hilson, Muskegon County Prosecutor, said, “It was sort of a pattern of repeated behavior, where either he was driving with a suspended license causing serious injury or he was driving drunk, or in at least one conviction he was fleeing and escaping. the police.”

Hilson says it’s frustrating when people like Hall parade the system and hopes a conviction in this case sends a serious message that “As you continue to thumb your nose at the system, you’re thumbing your nose to the restrictions and orders you’re under, including being under the supervision of the Department of Corrections while on parole. The only place you can do this is to sit somewhere in a facility for a long period of time.

Hilson charged Hall with operating while intoxicated causing injury and driving with a suspended license causing injury. At last check, he remains in custody at the Muskegon County Jail on $20,000 bail.
