Florida Governor DeSantis aims to raise $10 million for Trump

By CNN’s Kit Maher

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis is aiming to raise $10 million for former President Donald Trump in an upcoming multistate fundraising campaign, according to a DeSantis adviser and two sources familiar with the matter.

DeSantis will raise money for the super PAC Right for America, led by Trump ally Sergio Gor. Events are expected to begin in July and extend through September, in states including Texas, California and Washington. Billionaire and former Marvel Entertainment chairman Ike Perlmutter is one of the PAC’s biggest donors.

Perlmutter, DeSantis and a group of DeSantis donors met last Thursday, which Trump joined for a phone call, and they discussed fundraising efforts, according to a person present. This lasted about 10 minutes.

Once rivals in a bitter 2024 primary, the source said Trump and DeSantis argued over their golf game and a bit about the campaign. The two men discussed the courses they were playing. Describing the conversation as jovial and moving forward, the source said “Trump was Trump.”

“It feels like it’s 2019 all over again,” the source said.

They also said Trump asked DeSantis to help him with Right for America, and DeSantis said he would.

Another source in the room during the call told CNN: “The conversation was very friendly and warm. They discussed golf and made small talk. The governor told the former president that he raised more money than any other politician in 2020 and would do the same in 2024. Trump thanked DeSantis and told him it was great to have him find in its fold. The President was very appreciative and the Governor was unwavering in his show of support.

DeSantis and Trump have spoken on the phone at least twice since their meeting in Florida last month, according to the two sources in the room for the call.

NBC News was the first to report it.
