Officials of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) arrested a Lankan arriving from Bangalore, India with items worth Rs 1,00,000 at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) on Friday (31).

The arrested person was identified as a 37-year-old resident of Wattala and a businessman with a history of importing and selling foreign goods while engaging in frequent flights.

The individual was arrested while trying to exit via the BIA greenway.

Among the items seized were 61 bottles of whiskey (42 bottles of Label 5 and 19 bottles of Ballantine’s) and 26 kilograms of cardamom.

The arrested person and the seized goods were handed over to BIA customs officials for further investigation.
