Wednesday Star Jenna Ortega Surprises Fans By Leaving Hit Netflix Series

Netflix users are expressing shock after realizing Jenna Ortega has officially left an original series.

Last week, the streaming service releasedJurassic world: Chaos theorythe animated sequel to Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceouswhich lasted five seasons from 2020 to 2022.

Wednesday star Ortega played the character Brooklynn in the original series alongside Paul-Mikél Williams, Sean Giambrone, Kausar Mohammed and Raini Rodriguez, who all returned for the follow-up, Chaos theory.

When the trailer for the series was released, it was revealed that Brooklynn would be killed off, which shocked the fandom. However, many believed it was a trap and that Brooklynn and Ortega would return.

*Spoilers follow – you have been warned*

One of them is true: while the series shows via flashback that Ortega’s character was killed, a big twist at the end reveals that Brooklynn is, in fact, alive and well.

However, as long as the character lives, she will do so without Ortega’s voice. The character will instead be played by Kiersten Kelly. The only other star who hasn’t reprized his role is Ryan Potter, whose character Kenji is instead voiced by Darren Barnet.

Fans were left stunned by the revelation, with one person calling it “crazy” and another “devastating”. One person wrote on X/Twitter: “Brother, I’m watching Camp Cretaceous Chaos Theory and what do you mean they killed Brooklynn??? I guess they couldn’t have Jenna Ortega anymore.

However, executive producer Scott Kreamer said CinemaBlend that the plan was to kill Brooklynn all along — and had nothing to do with Ortega’s availability.

“The idea of Brooklyn’s death happened way before,” Kreamer told the outlet. “It was written with Jenna playing the role that wasn’t like, ‘Oh, we’re not going to be able to have Jenna, what can we do?’ It was like, “No, this is the character who would ask the questions that would get her in trouble.” We knew we were going to see Brooklynn in flashbacks.

The reason for Ortega’s absence from the series could be attributed to the star’s rise to fame in recent years, which may have led to scheduling conflicts.

In addition to performing and producing Wednesdaywhich became a huge hit for Netflix upon its release in 2021, Ortega starred in the fifth and sixth Scream films and has roles in six upcoming projects, including the long-awaited sequel to Tim Burton’s Beetlejuice.

Ortega, who hosted his Saturday Night Live episode in 2023, is currently filming Wednesday season two, which is expected to be released in 2024. The 20-year-old actor also recently starred opposite Martin Freeman, in Miller’s daughterwho sparked controversy due to her age gap with the 52-year-old star, with whom she has romantic scenes.

The film follows a university student who embarks on a complicated and inappropriate romance with her English professor.

In response to the strong online reaction to a recent interview with The temperature, Freeman insisted that the film is “mature and nuanced.” It’s not about saying, “Isn’t that great?” »

He called the backlash the film received after the trailer’s release a “disgrace,” adding: “Are they going to go after Liam Neeson for starring in a Holocaust movie? Neeson directed the 1993 war drama Schindler’s List.

Ortega is currently filming Wednesday the second season, which is expected to be released in 2024.
