Sacramento restaurants offer cheap food through this app. Which restaurants are there?

A number of Sacramento-area restaurants and bakeries are offering deeply discounted meals through a popular smartphone app.

Too Good To Go, which bills itself as a “marketplace for surplus food,” aims to help reduce food waste by giving restaurants the opportunity to sell their excess items at a lower cost.

Reddit users have recently been raving about the deals they’ve scored thanks to the Too Good To Go app.

In a thread Monday, Reddit user browniepoints5000 shared all the food he purchased from Posh Bakery in Sacramento for a total of $12: “six blueberry muffins, a dozen maple donuts , an assortment of treats, a loaf of bread, rolls… and 1.5 dozen bagels!

Another Reddit user, Rick_Perrys_Ranch, said he tried the app after hearing about it on Reddit.

“I reserved a $10 bag of food” at the 7-Eleven at Stockton Boulevard and Florin Road, they said. “The support was easy; (I) was in and out in less than a minute. I ended up with a chicken salad sandwich and two ham/turkey/bacon club sandwiches. In short, not bad for $10!

Other Redditors reported using Too Good To Go to buy food at Donuts & Coffey, Bad Bakers, Roundhouse Deli, and Ikea in Sacramento.

“Ikea is a GREAT deal,” said Reddit user Hybrid_Johnny, adding that they spent $7 on “almost two full meals and a few desserts.”

“But it sells very quickly,” adds the poster. “If you don’t open the app and press the button as soon as it goes live at 8:30 a.m., you won’t get anything done.”

How does the Too Good To Go app work?

After downloading the Too Good To Go app and providing your location, you can see which stores, cafes and restaurants have surplus food in your area.

Some places will list what items they sell.

For example, Peet’s Coffee at 20th and J streets recently offered a bag of whole bean roasted coffee for $5.67. It originally cost $17.

Other companies simply state that they have what are called “goody bags” filled with leftover food items at the end of the day. Depending on the location, there may be more details about the types of food you can expect.

Each company has its own pickup hours.

Once you find a place you want to purchase from, you will need to book a pickup order and pay from the app.
