Arsenal are considering a shock £40m midfielder swap.

The Gunners are back for Aston Villa’s Douglas Luiz – considering whether to swap Villains long-term target Emile Smith Rowe for the Brazilian star.

North Londoners have shown keen interest in Luiz’s arrival from Villa Park.

Arsenal attempted to sign Luiz last summer – but two offers of £25m and £30m were turned down.

However, the Gunners could tempt former boss Unai Emery’s determination to keep Luiz by offering Smith Rowe – who the former Arsenal head coach has been a big fan of since working with the player at the Emirates.

With Arsenal valuing Smith Rowe at around £40 million, Villa’s pressing demands to stay within the Premier League’s profit and sustainability rules could see a sensational swap take place – certainly with Villa valuing the Brazil international at around £42.5 million.
