Casado ‘shocked’ by Laporta praise as he confirms Barcelona renewal is near

Atletic Barcelona captain Marc Casado admitted he was ‘shocked’ by recent praise from Joan Laporta, who also said he expected the midfielder to be part of the first team next season.

Casado has been tipped to replace Sergi Roberto in the senior team and is delighted to learn of the confidence the club has placed in him.

“For me, it’s a pride that the president had these words towards me, it’s incredible for me, when I saw it, I was shocked,” he told reporters.

“I am very happy that the club has this confidence in me and I always hope to respond in the best possible way.”

Casado also confirmed that he is in contract negotiation talks and is close to reaching an agreement with the club.

“The club and I are on the same line, we just talk about four things that are not important,” he added.

“We think the best thing for me and what both parties want is to continue to wear this jersey for a long time and I hope that will be the case.”

The midfielder is expected to sign a new contract until 2027 soon.
