The city has been debating the proposed Chick-fil-A on Bradley Cove Road across from First Coast High School since December 2022.

Tonight’s vote is the first item on the agenda for Tuesday’s City Council meeting, which is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m. Many neighborhood residents have voiced opposition to the proposal over the past year and a half.

The city held a community meeting on the topic in May, and dozens of people came to express concerns about the potential traffic problems the Chick-fil-A project could cause. The meeting took place after the city published a study on traffic of the proposed site at the intersection of Bradley Road and Lady Lake Road.

Jacksonville Chief Traffic Engineer Chris Ledew said he found a traffic signal was warranted and a right-turn deceleration lane was needed at each entrance to the site.

However, the changes are still not favorable for many neighbors.

“If they want to light up, all they’re going to do is increase traffic on Lady Lake Road, past the houses, to exit onto Summer Beach Drive,” Oceanway resident Szilvia Smith said during the May meeting.
