MEET THE RECORDING: 215-3 set by Ron Dayne of Overbrook in 1996.

WEAK SEEDS WITH THE BEST MEDAL CHANCE: Seton Hall Prep’s Tyler Dunn is the No. 10 seed, but has the fifth-best mark in the state (175-10), which he started at the Essex County Relays. He hasn’t broken the 170-foot-plus mark in any other competition this season, but he is one of seven athletes to even surpass that mark this season. A 170 or better from him on Wednesday should be more than enough to earn him a medal.

THE COMPETITORS : Benjamin Shue, Bergen Catholic, Shawn Brady, Bishop Eustace; Damere Lassiter; Glassboro, Capp Desheplo, West Morris; Anthony Liakhnovich, Hammonton; Brock Schenck, Bordentown

ANALYSIS: Benjamin Shue has been a leading contender for the state title in discus since his freshman year, when he held the state’s top spot in 2022 and the second-best mark in 2023. But those two years saw him make facing stiff competition from the state. rest of the state. This year, no athlete came close to the scores they got this year. Shue, who threw an all-time NJ No. 5 throw of 204-10 earlier this season in a tri-meet at Paramus Catholic, is the state leader in the discus of about 23 feet this year. Barring a huge performance from the rest of the field, this will be the year Shue gets over the hump and wins his first M of C title in the discus. If anyone is going to pull off an upset, it’s probably going to be Bishop Eustace’s Shawn Brady. His PR of 181-10 is second-best in the state, and he’s thrown 170 or more in seven games this year. Also keep an eye on Glassboro’s Damere Lassiter, who has a PR of 184-8 entering 2023. He will be motivated to finally hit a PR to close out his high school career.
