Sweet Moment Newfoundland Gets Caught Playing With Puppies: “Token Uncle”

Hearts were well and truly melted after witnessing the sweet moment a Newfoundland was caught playing a sweet game of chase with two 4-week-old puppies.

Dog owner Bethany Davis, of Hubbard, Oregon, observed how eagerly their enormous Newfie Gus enticed the little puppies to play with him, even though they were much smaller than him. Once they finally responded and started chasing him around the yard, Davis couldn’t help but share it on TikTok (@nottabear) to delight his social media followers.

Although the puppies don’t belong to Gus, Davis joked that he was “their symbolic uncle” and that he took that role very seriously. She said News week that he “tries so hard” to get them to play whenever he can, and he’s always incredibly gentle with them.

In just a few days, the video of the 2-year-old Newfoundland, nicknamed “Gus Gus,” playing with the little puppies went viral on TikTok. It has already generated over 1.1 million views and over 41,400 likes as of this writing.

Davis said, “Gus really wants the puppies to play chase, but he doesn’t know how to get their attention to chase him. When they’re all playing, he usually lays down nearby, sniffs them, and sees if he can. play anyone.

“A few of them started following him and that’s when it all started. He was so excited to get them playing, but compared to his big steps, it takes them a lot longer to chase him. He’s very careful with them and he knows he can’t run at full speed.”

Gus may be dominating the little pups, named Green and Gold, but Davis loved seeing how gentle and patient he remained with them.

Newfoundlands are known for their large frames, measuring up to 28 inches tall and weighing up to 150 pounds according to the American Kennel Club (AKC). Although they are giants of the dog world, the AKC also points out that they are very playful and make the ultimate nanny dog for children.

How did TikTok react?

There’s no doubt that Gus loves fulfilling his role as uncle, so there are sure to be many more special moments to come as the puppies grow and become even more engaged with him.

Davis said News week: “I’m so thrilled to have captured this moment between Gus and the babies. Not many breeds can do this with their litters, and it really speaks to the sweetness of this breed.

“The reaction was surprising. I’m shocked because this number of views is hard to imagine, but it’s the cutest video I’ve ever seen. Of course, everyone is asking for a puppy now, but this requires very special family attention so that we can place a puppy, because everyone takes a little bit of us with them.”

Gus’ antics have delighted many social media users since they went viral, earning him lots of praise online for his sweetness and acting. The clip has already garnered over 480 comments on TikTok, like one person wrote: “A big floof plays with little floofs.”

Another TikTok user replied: “There’s that dose of serotonin I was looking for. »

While another comment said: “So cute, no matter their size!”
