Loka Kerala Sabha inaugural ceremony canceled following Kuwait tragedy

Thiruvananthapuram: The inaugural ceremony of the fourth edition of the Loka Kerala Sabha (LKS) has been canceled following the devastating tragedy in Kuwait. The decision comes in the wake of a fire in a building in Kuwait, where more than 13 Malayalis reportedly lost their lives. Reports indicate that more than 40 Indians tragically perished in the fire.

Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, in response to the crisis, took the decision to cancel all seminars and sessions scheduled for Thursday. The sessions, initially scheduled for Thursday, will now begin on June 14 and end on June 15.

The officials further announced the cancellation of all celebratory programs associated with the Loka Kerala Sabha meeting. The event was to be inaugurated at the R. Sankara Narayanan Thampi Members’ Lounge.

Loka Kerala Sabha is an initiative of the Government of Kerala that aims to unite the Malayali diaspora scattered across the world under one global platform. However, the recent tragedy in Kuwait has highlighted the importance of prioritizing human compassion and solidarity in times of distress.

The next regional Loka Kerala Sabha conference is expected to take place in Saudi Arabia. The event is scheduled to take place in Riyadh, Jeddah and Dammam on October 19, 20 and 21 respectively. The Kerala Chief Minister, along with other government officials, is expected to attend the program.
