Matt Smith corrects interviewer for pronoun mistake

Matt Smith expertly corrected an interviewer who used incorrect pronouns for one of his House of the Dragon co-stars.

The 41-year-old is promoting the second season of the hit HBO/Sky Atlantic series and was interviewed by presenter Sue Perkins at the premiere in London on Monday.

While chatting with Matt, Sue referred to Rhaenyra Targaryen star Emma D’Arcy as “she” – however Emma has already made it clear that she identifies as non-binary and uses those pronouns.

Gently correcting Sue’s mistake, Matt took the opportunity to highlight Emma’s preferences by reacting to a question about his co-star, saying: “I can’t take credit for that, (but ) I have to say, aren’t they awesome?” “

He added: “They’re absolutely brilliant and you’re going to have a blast with Emma this year, I think Emma put in… a really good performance.”

Emma opened up about her non-binary identity while promoting the fantasy drama’s first season and explained how it influenced their performance as heir to the Targaryen throne.

Emma told The Hollywood Reporter in July 2022: “Rhaenyra continually struggles with what it means to be a woman and is a fundamental outsider. She is terrified of finding herself trapped in motherhood and is aware of how her position would be different if she were a man.

They then noted: “I am a non-binary person. I have always found myself both attracted and repelled by masculine and feminine identities and I think that is playing out here with truth. She cannot attend court d ‘a way that is easy for him.
