Oregon Department of Employment Announces 2024-25 Minimum and Maximum Weekly Unemployment Benefits and Paid Leave Benefits

SALEM, Ore. (KTVZ) — The Oregon Department of Employment announced Thursday the minimum and maximum weekly benefit amounts for 2024-2025 for Oregon Unemployment Insurance and Paid Leave.

By law, the department calculates the minimum and maximum benefit amounts once a year. These calculations are based on the average weekly wage for the state of Oregon and are generally in effect from July 1 to June 30 of the following year. The state’s average weekly wage increased from $1,269.69 to $1,307.17.

The minimum weekly benefit amount is the lowest amount the program will pay to a claimant for each week they claim benefits, and the maximum benefit amount is the maximum amount the program will pay, regardless of income.

Oregon Weekly Benefit Amounts for Unemployment Insurance and Paid Leave 2024-25

Unemployment insurance: Minimum amount of weekly benefit $196; Maximum amount of weekly benefit: $836
Paid Leave Oregon: Minimum weekly benefit amount $65.36; Maximum weekly benefit amount: $1,568.60

Unemployment insurance

Starting June 30, 2024, the minimum weekly benefit amount for new unemployment insurance claims will increase from $190 to $196 per week, and the maximum weekly benefit amount will increase from $812 to $836 per week. This increase only affects claims filed on or after June 30, 2024. People who file new unemployment insurance claims before June 30 will continue to receive the same amount of benefits.

This is an increase of 3.0%. The minimum weekly benefit amount is 15% of the state average weekly wage and the maximum is 64%. In the most recent quarter, 9.3% of claimants received the minimum weekly amount and 27.7% received the maximum.

For unemployment insurance, the weekly benefit amount is generally 1.25% of what a claimant earned during their “base period”, which corresponds approximately to the first 12 of the 15 months preceding the date he filed his application.

For paid leave in Oregon, the minimum weekly benefit amount is 5% of the state average weekly wage and the maximum is 120%. Effective Sunday, July 7, 2024, the minimum weekly benefit amount for new paid leave benefit years will increase from $63.48 to $65.36 per week, and the maximum weekly benefit amount will increase from $1,523.63 $ to $1,568.60 per week. This increase only applies to benefit years beginning on or after July 7, 2024. Individuals whose paid leave benefit year begins before July 7 will continue to receive the same amount of benefits.

Paid Time Off Oregon calculates the weekly benefit amount based on the employee’s average weekly wage compared to the state average weekly wage. The amount is therefore different for each employee. People who earn lower wages will generally receive a higher percentage of their usual salary in benefits than those who earn higher wages.
