UGC asks universities to refund tuition fees to students who canceled admission

New Delhi: The University Grants Commission has decided that students should get a refund of their fees if they choose to cancel or withdraw their admission before a specific period of time.

Students will receive 100% refund within 15 days or more before the last officially notified admission date, while they will receive 90% below 15 days.

“Notwithstanding anything contained in the guidelines/prospectus/notification/schedule, a full refund of fees will be made by HEls on account of all cancellations of student admissions and migrations up to September 30, 2024 and with a deduction not exceeding Rs. 1,000, as processing fee, till October 31, 2024,” the UGC said.

The policy will apply to all institutions of higher education, whether established or constituted by or under any Central Act or any State Act, and to every institution recognized by the University Grants Commission under clause (f) of section 2 of the University Grants Commission Act, 1956 and to all establishments deemed to be a university declared as such under section 3 of these regulations and to all higher education establishments affiliated with a university.

Students will be entitled to a 100 percent refund within 15 days or more before the last officially notified admission date, while they will receive 90 percent below 15 days. After 15 days, 80 percent of the refund will be available and 50 percent after 30 days. After one month, students will no longer be eligible for a refund.
