Fugitive US ‘hitwoman’ Aimee Betro breaks silence as her shocked mother and friends insist she is ‘the nicest person in the world’ after her double life was exposed in a botched murder-for-hire plot in the UK.

The American “hitwoman” who is in hiding after being exposed for a botched contract killing in England has contacted friends in her Wisconsin hometown, telling them she is being trapped on a “shit show.”

“Lol, what are you doing?” » a friend from Stevens Point messaged Aimee Betro, 44, on Facebook Thursday, sending her an article from DailyMail.com featuring her photo and details of her involvement in a 2019 murder-for-hire plot.

The friend was even more surprised that Betro responded, even though he was still on the run in Asia after authorities announced they were looking for her.

“Man, I’ve seen, like, I don’t even know where to start with all the misinformation that’s being said about me,” she wrote to him in a Facebook messaging exchange seen by DailyMail.com. “It’s a fucking shit show.”

“I’m glad you’re okay!” the friend replied. “Do you need anything or can I help you somehow?” »

American Aimee Betro was accused of attempted murder in Birmingham, England, in 2019.

DailyMail.com spoke with Betro's mother, Jeanne Johnson, in Stevens Point, Wisconsin, about her daughter's plight.

DailyMail.com spoke with Betro’s mother, Jeanne Johnson, in Stevens Point, Wisconsin, about her daughter’s plight.

“I don’t know man,” she replied, “I don’t think you can help, but I really appreciate you reaching out,” ending with a red heart emoji .

Betro, was an unassuming American tourist whose secret double life as a suspected hitman was exposed after a jammed gun saw her botch a murder contract in Birmingham in 2019.

She flew over her native Milwaukee to kill clothing store owner Sikander Ali on the orders of his rival Mohammed Aslam, 56, and his son Mohammed Nazir, 30.

A trial in the UK has revealed how the hitwoman, who worked as an administrator for the Milwaukee Brewers baseball team, disguised herself in a hijab before attempting to shoot the store owner.

Betro’s friend, who hasn’t seen her in about a year, told DailyMail.com that he was just one of many friends from her hometown who were communicating with her about the plot to failed murder.

“I talked to her best friend today and this person said she talks to Aimee every day,” he said. “She uses her phone every day, she takes photos from her apartment window and talks to people all the time.

“If the police really wanted to arrest him, they would have him already,” he added. “Just track her phone and get her.”

He claims that during these exchanges, Betro admitted the basic facts of the case. However, we do not know exactly what she is contesting.

“Aimee is not saying she didn’t participate in any of this,” he said. “She acknowledges that she was involved and all that. She simply says that some details are not correct.

One local who didn’t hear from Betro was her own mother, Jeanne Johnson, who lives in a trailer park in Stevens Point, 150 miles northwest of Milwaukee.

She had no idea of her daughter’s alleged crime until a reporter from DailyMail.com showed up at her door Thursday afternoon and presented her with the article.

Betro previously had a day job with the Milwaukee Brewers, which some said she seemed to enjoy, but she was reportedly fired for stealing fans' credit card information.

“I’m shocked,” Johnson said, climbing onto her deck and shaking as she took a drag on a cigarette. “I was waiting for this day – either trouble or death.”

“What was she thinking?” » she said dryly as she read the article.

In a stern warning to authorities, Johnson said: “She’s not stupid. She knows how to hide.

Johnson is divorced from Betro’s father, Stephen Betro, who is currently incarcerated in Wisconsin for drug offenses and has spent much of his adult life behind bars.

His daughter, a seemingly modest American tourist, is said to have led a secret double life as a hired assassin, coming from Milwaukee to kill clothing store owner Sikander Ali on the orders of his rival Mohammed Aslam, 56, and of his son Mohammed Nazir. , 30, heard a trial in the United Kingdom.

During her stay in the UK from August to September 2019, she enjoyed what would otherwise appear to be a normal holiday, with almost hourly updates on Instagram showing her dancing at a party on a boat, visiting the London Eye and going to a music festival.

Betro was seen soaking up the sun on a busy Brighton beach and sipping margarita and mojito cocktails while meeting up with friends.

She then documented her visit to Birmingham, where she shared a mock photo showing herself with devil horns. The photo was posted on September 7 – the day before she dressed up in a hijab before attempting to shoot Ali outside a house in Acocks Green, a suburb of England’s second city.

Betro fled the scene when her gun jammed, but she later returned in a taxi and fired three shots at the property.

It was a source of ridicule for some of Betro’s old friends in Wisconsin.

“It’s a hunting area and I’m sure she hasn’t hunted a day in her life,” the friend said. “As far as I know, she never fired a gun. She’s the last person I thought would be a murderer.

“I mean, she probably didn’t even put shells in the chamber the first time, I don’t know,” he said. “Luckily it didn’t turn out the way she wanted, because at least now there’s a chance she won’t get into too much trouble.”

Johnson said she hasn’t seen her daughter in years. She knew Betro had an open identity theft case against her in Wisconsin. She also described the startling experience of having the FBI show up at her trailer a few years ago, questioning her about her daughter.

Authorities accused the daughter of sending an illegal package and obtained a DNA sample from the mother, likely to help authorities match it to Betro’s DNA in their investigation.

Johnson quickly messaged her daughter asking about the package and said her daughter responded curtly, “It’s none of your business!”

She now thinks it could all be linked to the 2019 investigation in Birmingham, England.

“I never understood why she did what she did,” she told DailyMail.com. “I thought she booked it because of this identity theft thing.”

She admitted that she didn’t have the most affectionate relationship with her daughter and only heard from her recently when she sent her a Mother’s Day card from an unknown source.

“She’s a pretty girl, very smart, very outgoing,” Johnson said. “I couldn’t get a word in edgewise.”

She said her daughter graduated in the top third of her class in high school and went to Mid-State Technical College. She eventually landed an administrative position with the Milwaukee Brewers, which she seemed to love.

But according to Betro’s friend, she lost her job after being caught using her fans’ credit cards to pay for her own trips and hotels.

He said she often traveled abroad, including to the United Kingdom and other countries where she attended concerts and raves. She also promoted bands and, a few years ago, purchased electronic equipment for DJ events.

He had known Betro for years. The two played on the same frisbee golf team, playing games across the state. They would also get together for local keg parties where a few dozen friends would get together.

“She was never anything other than the kindest person in the world,” he said. “I read the news and thought this couldn’t be true. It’s in every newspaper in the country now, so it must be true.

“Honestly, if you put everyone in this town together and said which ones are going to try to kill someone, she would be the last person I would choose,” he said. “I never heard her yell at anyone.”

“The longer she stays on the run, the more she tries to escape, the more guilty she looks,” he said. “She obviously has no idea what she’s doing.”
