Taylor Swift’s ex-boyfriend Joe Alwyn finally broke his silence about their breakup in a new interview.

The 33-year-old actor never said a word about his ex, but eventually opened up about his romance with the superstar after they split last year following a six-and-a-half-year relationship.

In a new interview, the actor who is set to star alongside Emma Stone in a new film told the Sunday Times Style Magazine that his past relationship with the Cruel Summer singer was “long, loving and fully committed”.

“I hope everyone can empathize and understand the difficulties that come at the end of a long, loving, fully committed relationship of over six and a half years.

“It’s a difficult thing to deal with. What is unusual and abnormal about this situation is that a week later it suddenly comes into the public domain and the outside world can intervene,” he said, reflecting on the attention the public at the end of their relationship.

“So you have something very real suddenly thrown into a very unreal space: the tabloids, social media, the press, where it is then dissected, speculated, distorted and made unrecognizable.

“And the truth is that, on this last point, there will always be a gap between what is known and what is said. I’ve made peace with that.

The comments come as Taylor continues the UK leg of her sold-out Eras tour, which has enjoyed worldwide success.

Joe and Taylor started dating in October 2016, when she was 28 and he was 26.

The couple apparently met at the Met Gala, just months after the Lover singer dated Tom Hiddleston.

Engagement rumors followed the couple for years, with the actor once telling the Wall Street Journal: “If I had a pound for every time I think someone tells me I’m engaged, then I’d I’d have a lot of pound coins.” ‘

After their breakup, the singer released a new album, The Tortured Poets Department. Many believed this album was inspired by the singer’s breakups with Joe and Matty Healy from 1975.

The singer has been in a relationship with American footballer Travis Kelce since the end of last year.

Taylor’s public relationship with the athlete is very different from the private life she had with Joe.

In the new interview, the actor emphasized that it was a “mutual” decision between him and his ex to keep their relationship private.

“As everyone knows, we have decided together – both of us, mutually – to keep the most private details of our relationship private. This has never been something to be commodified and I see no reason to change that now.

“And, look, it’s also been a little over a year now and I feel lucky to be in a really great place in my life, professionally and personally. I feel really good.

When asked if he was currently in a relationship or still in contact with his ex, Joe shut down the question.

“I’m sure you’ll understand, given the level of noise and attention paid to my past relationship, why I wouldn’t want to open the door to things like that now,” he said.

The actor is set to star in Kinds of Kindness, a new film due out later this month.

The film has been described as “depraved” and follows three major storylines. The plot revolves around a man trying to regain control of his life, a police officer who thinks his wife has changed, and a woman looking for someone with a special ability.

The film comes from director Yorgos Lanthimos, who was recently praised for his film Poor Things, which also starred Emma Stone. Joe previously worked with the director on his 2018 film The Favorite, another major Oscar winner.

“I’m not sure I have a complete answer as to what it is,” Joe told the Times. “That’s one of the reasons why I love his (director’s) films: there’s so much ambiguity and they’re so singular.”

Kinds of Kindness is set to be released on June 28.
