‘Should not host…’: Sunil Gavaskar’s angry direct message to ICC after India-Canada T20 World Championship abandonment

For the third consecutive match in Florida, play had to be stopped without a ball being bowled at the T20 World Cup on Saturday. After Sri Lanka vs Nepal on Tuesday and USA vs Ireland on Friday, it was India vs Canada on Saturday. On three occasions, play was stopped due to rain or a wet outfield. Saturday was the peak. There was no rain at all and yet no play was possible as the pitch was damp from the previous rain.

Earlier, Pakistan were eliminated even before playing their match between USA and Ireland at the Central Broward Regional Park Stadium Turf Ground, Lauderhill, Florida.

Batting great Sunil Gavaskar was angry with the way things progressed.

“Requests the ICC not to host matches without cover to cover the entire pitch. We simply cannot cover the pitch and let other parts of the pitch get wet. So many people were waiting to see the top “This does not should not be the case,” Sunil Gavaskar said on Star Sports.

Even Michael Vaughan was angry. “How we don’t have more blankets to cover the entire field is beyond me… all the money in the game and yet we still have matches canceled for wet fields!!!! #T20WorldCup #USA,” said -he writes on X.

Bad weather hampered India’s hopes of boosting their Super Eight preparations with a match against Canada on Saturday, but they will travel to the Caribbean as a confident unit after a strong group stage campaign of the T20 World Cup. India’s final Group A championship match against Canada was abandoned without a ball being thrown due to a wet outfield.

Both teams shared one point each, as India topped Group A with seven points. The United States (five points) was the second team to qualify from the group. Canada finished third with three points.

India’s confidence comes mainly from the efforts of the leaders in three group matches. Fast pacers Jasprit Bumrah, Arshdeep Singh, Hardik Pandya and Mohammed Siraj combined to take 20 wickets among them.

Of course, they’ve had a wicked, double-paced pitch for help at Nassau County Stadium in these matches, and they’ll have traditional surfaces to play on in the West Indies for the rest of the showpiece of the ICC.

But if their outings in New York can be taken as any indication, then the opposition will have cause for concern.
