Jennifer Love Hewitt felt like she was going punk when she was offered ‘Criminal Minds’

Criminal minds once recruited actress Jennifer Love Hewitt to play a type of character she wasn’t used to playing. But it was a role she couldn’t have been less prepared for.

Hewitt got his start on Criminal minds during the 10th of the showth season as Kate Callahan. Callahan was a no-nonsense FBI agent who joined the show’s Behavioral Analysis Unit (BAU) to help the team track down dangerous criminals. When she heard the news, she got the role, but admitted to feeling like she was “punk.”

“When I got the call, I was in sweatpants,” Hewitt said in a 2014 interview with E News. “Without makeup, I’m making stuffed peppers in my kitchen, where I’ve been for a moment after baby.”

Hewitt’s new responsibilities as a mother contributed to the brief panic she felt while casting the series.

“I’m definitely flying by the seat of my pants,” Hewitt said. “You know, you’re a mom and everything, from the moment they’re in your arms, flies by the seat of your pants. So you get very good at it very quickly. (Fall) is about being really brave and I’m brave and we’re just figuring it out.

Hewitt said his familiar relationship with CBS played a role in helping him land the role.

“They were looking to add a new actor and, obviously, I spent time at CBS before, doing Ghost whisperer,“, she once told Entertainment Weekly. “Honestly, I was always wondering and waiting to find the perfect way to come back. My first experience on CBS was so great. They are great and Les (Moonves ) were great to me I was really excited when they called and asked to set up a meeting. I met (showrunner) Erica (Messer), who I’ve known since I was 14. Group of five. I hadn’t seen her in a long time, so it was great to see her again. Everything went well and the timing was perfect.

She didn’t stay on the show for long, however. She left after one season to take care of her growing responsibilities as a mother.

How Does ‘Criminal Minds’ Compare to Jennifer Love Hewitt’s Previous Roles

Hewitt has played many roles throughout his career. In the 90s, she was known for starring in feature films like I know what you did last summer. She was perhaps best known for her roles on shows like The whisper of ghosts And Customer list. Criminal mindshowever, was a very different experience than either project.

“Coming out of (Customer list), which was incredibly different, they couldn’t be more different characters,” she said.

In Customer list, Hewitt plays a spa employee who engages in shady dealings with her clients for financial gain. This stood in stark contrast to the morally sound Callahan in Criminal minds. In The whisper of ghosts, Hewitt played psychic medium Melinda Gordon for five seasons. Like Callahan, Melinda would use her gifts to help mediums in need. But the problems they solved couldn’t have been any more different.

“Melinda has really come up against a lot of super scary people in a totally different way than Kate. Kate comes up against real-life, scary, scary bad guys,” Hewitt said. “For Melinda, the Most of the time, these people ended up dying and she was able to find empathy for them. Kate has absolutely no sensitivity for these people simply because she believes in the good of people, in doing the right thing. way and not to hurt others Melinda could understand why these people could do these things and she had to understand to bring these people to light.

Hewitt also gave up a certain amount of power to Criminal minds which she had in her two previous television shows.

“This is the first time that I have participated in a show that I did not produce and that I did not edit. I’m just a cast member. This is their home and I am truly honored to be invited there. It’s fun for me,” she added.
