Jude Bellingham sends message to Kobbie Mainoo after Euro 2024 victory

Jude Bellingham sends message to Kobbie Mainoo after Euro 2024 victory

England are up and running at Euro 2024 with victory against Serbia in a first competitive match for the Three Lions.

Jude Bellingham scored the winner with a powerful header early in the match for England, although Gareth Southgate’s side hung on in the end.

England started with Trent-Alexander Arnold in midfield with Declan Rice and Bellingham, an experiment which did not work particularly well, despite winning.

Conor Gallagher came off the bench as the first substitute in midfield, before Manchester United wonderkid Kobbie Mainoo was introduced late on.

Kobbie Mainoo backed for more

Kobbie Mainoo was making just his fourth appearance for England, having made his debut in a friendly in March.

Notably, Mainoo was making his first tournament appearance and playing his first competitive match for England.

Introduced as a substitute for Bellingham late in the 86th minute, Mainoo was not asked to do much with England just trying to secure a 1-0 victory.

He did his job, with the Three Lions taking the win. On Instagram, he described it as “a great start to the tournament.”

Mainoo received a message from winner Jude Bellingham, who replied: “Congratulations to my boy, the first of many.”

Mainoo will next face the Manchester United duo

England boss Gareth Southgate has a decision to make for England’s next match, with Trent-Alexander Arnold disappointing in the opener.

While Rice and Bellingham have their spots reserved, there is one spot on the team up for grabs that Mainoo has a chance to claim.

England’s next match will take place in very new circumstances for Mainoo, as it would pit him against two Manchester United teammates.

The Three Lions face Denmark on Thursday, while Mainoo faces Christian Eriksen and Rasmus Hojlund, who drew 1-1 with Slovenia in their opening match.
