Dutch star Memphis Depay wore his latest bizarre fashion piece during a competitive match for the first time as Ronald Koeman’s side kicked off their Euro 2024 campaign with success.

Depay led the line in the 2-1 win over Poland and showcased a custom-made headband which sparked mixed reactions from fans online.

The former Manchester United flop revived his career in Spain, first at Barcelona then Atletico Madrid, and is a constant presence in the Dutch national team.

Depay has a reputation for having a flashy attitude but is now looking for a new club after running out his contract at Atletico, with his performances at the European Championship an opportunity to show teams what he can offer.

The 30-year-old is renowned for his eye-catching cars and fashion accessories, and has chosen to wear a white headband around his head during training and during Euro 2024 matches.

Depay presented a new headband with the words “who cares” sewn on the back

Writing the number 10 of his jersey on the front of the headband, Depay had the words “who cares” sewn on the back in gold writing.

Depay had a difficult afternoon against the Polish defense, missing several chances and was hooked in the 82nd minute when Koeman decided to bring on veteran striker Wout Weghorst in his place.

The substitution appeared to have been a stroke of genius as Weghorst scored just two minutes after winning the match 2-1 at the death.

The 30-year-old Dutch striker struggled to convert his chances in front of goal against Poland.

Meanwhile, fans have given their verdict on Depay’s strange new piece of clothing, with one post on X declaring: “His aura is untouchable.”

Another article commenting on Depay’s chosen design hilariously added: “Looks like he doesn’t do it either with the way he finishes,” in response to the words “who cares” on the banner.

A third post continues in the same way, adding: “Still as frustrating as ever watching like when he was at United.”

Depay is expected to feature in his team’s next group match when the Netherlands take on France next Friday.
